Fuse's 2020 Endorsements

Fuse has released its endorsements ahead of the 2020 primary election. Fuse's criteria for endorsements include:

Supporting candidates who have outstanding leadership qualities and will fight for working people, a healthy environment, and a better future for our children.
Supporting women, people of color, young people, and LGBTQ candidates running for office.
Supporting strong progressive candidates in competitive races against more conservative opponents.
Supporting progressives in races where the balance of power in the elected body is at stake and where Fuse efforts could help gain or protect a progressive majority.

With an email list of nearly 100,000 people and hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians using the Progressive Voters Guide, Fuse will educate voters about these candidates in the 2020 primary election. These candidates will also be included in Fuse's Progressive Voters Guide.

CONGRESS

Carolyn Long for Congress from the 3rd Congressional District.

The 3rd Congressional District offers one of the best chances in the country to flip a House seat from Red to Blue this fall. Long is championing expanding health care access, treating gun violence as a public health crisis, caring for veterans, reforming the tax code to make it more equitable for working families, and protecting Medicare and Social Security.

Beth Doglio for Congress from the 10th Congressional District

Doglio (D-Olympia) currently represents the 22nd Legislative District and brings a decade of experience fighting climate change and organizing for progressive causes.

STATEWIDE

Jay Inslee for Governor

Governor Jay Inslee has been a principled leader on the important challenges facing Washington. Most recently, Inslee has provided strong, effective, science-based leadership during the unprecedented coronavirus pandemic.

Before he was elected Governor in 2012, Inslee represented both sides of the Cascades in Congress, opposed the Iraq war, and worked to increase accountability and oversight for Wall Street banks. In his 2020 bid for the presidency, Inslee brought a climate-centered focus to the race, much as he has done in state politics. He has invested more than $170 million into clean energy and energy efficiency projects, implemented the Clean Air Rule, and pushed for legislation that reduces pollution in Washington.

Outside of his work on climate, Inslee has signed into law Washington's public option for healthcare, paid family leave, and the Equal Pay Opportunity Act. He has also welcomed refugees into the state and signed a bill declaring Washington a sanctuary state.

Bob Ferguson for State Attorney General

Attorney General Bob Ferguson has accomplished much in his two terms as attorney general. From his battle with the federal government to clean up the Hanford nuclear waste site to his formal investigation of price gouging during the coronavirus pandemic, Ferguson has been a strong and effective advocate for people in Washington. He has sued the Trump administration 50 times as of October 2019 and won every completed case (22 by his own count).

Hilary Franz for Public Lands Commissioner

Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz has been a proactive force for protecting our communities from climate change. As the head of the Washington Department of Natural Resources, she has focused on wildfire management and climate action.

This year she released a climate resilience plan for rural Washington that includes expanding wind and solar farms and massive reforestation. Given the statewide threat and impact of wildfires with recent record-setting fire seasons, she has also worked on a 20-year forest health plan and a 10-year fire protection plan.

KEY LEGISLATIVE RACES

Ingrid Anderson for state Senate from the 5th Legislative District

Anderson is a nurse, union member, and working mom running in the 5th Legislative District. After supporting Sen. Mark Mullet in 2012 and 2016, Fuse is backing Anderson this year because of her commitment to balancing our state’s upside-down tax code, protecting the environment, and supporting working people.

Tanisha Harris for state House from the 17th Legislative District:

Harris spent a decade working for the Evergreen School District and now works as a Court Appointed Special Advocate program specialist with the YWCA Clark County. Her priorities include encouraging low-income and workplace housing to tackle the state's homelessness and housing affordability crisis, reducing gun violence, and making additional investments in education.

T’wina Nobles for state Senate from the 28th Legislative District

Nobles is the President and CEO of the Tacoma Urban League, an educator, and a member of the University Place School. She has worked in education for 15 years as an instructor, PTA leader, and school board member. Her priorities include reforming our upside-down tax structure and fight for better wages and affordable housing for working people.

Sharlett Mena for state House from the 29th Legislative District

Mena previously worked on immigration policy in Congress and as a communications specialist in the Washington state Legislature, where she established Spanish language resources. Her impressive campaign platform includes bold action to equitably combat the climate crisis, reducing homelessness and increasing affordable housing, and reforming our upside-down tax code by finally making the wealthy pay their share.

Jamila Taylor for state House from the 30th Legislative District

Taylor is an attorney who advocates for crime victims and has an extensive record of volunteer service. She served as the statewide advocacy counsel for the Northwest Justice Project, where she managed a network of legal aid attorneys, and has worked on youth intervention programs and other violence reduction efforts. Taylor's progressive campaign platform includes increasing affordable housing, reducing the cost of prescription drugs, and improving transparency in government.

Jesse Johnson for state House from the 30th Legislative District

Rep. Johnson sponsored legislation to prohibit racist hairstyle discrimination and supported gun safety legislation, as well as establishing a student loan program for undocumented students.

Johnson is running a strong re-election campaign promoting equitable access to quality education for every student, affordability for working families and seniors, and improving services to help homeless and housing-unstable individuals.

Liz Berry for state House from the 36th Legislative District

Berry is the director of the Washington State Association of Justice and previously worked to elect women to office as president of the National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington.
